We all know by now that body care is big on social media. With hashtags like the #EverythingShower racking up 725 million views (and counting), consumers’ obsession is beginning to rival our longstanding collective appetite for beauty tips and skincare recommendations.
“Body care is emerging as a new interpretation of self-care,” TikTok’s beauty brand partnerships lead, Antonia Baildam, confirms. “Our beauty audience on TikTok is eager for information and has the appetite to learn about specific skin conditions and the ingredients and products to overcome them,” she goes on, flagging keratosis pilaris as an example of a common skin condition generating major conversation on the platform – and user-generated recommendations (in this case “brands such as CeraVe and Ameliorate”) along with it.
The body care products trending on TikTok fall into two distinct groups, Baildam notes. “The first being efficacy-based, ‘function over form’ brands, with products that are low-cost and ingredients-led like The Inkey List and CeraVe.” The second are a little more aesthetically focused. “Products from brands like Patrick Ta and Sol de Janeiro, which offer an enhancement to body care, rather than treating a specific condition.”
TikTok is also home to a wealth of creators sharing their body care hacks, to make products last longer or work more effectively. “One example of this is the Vaseline hack, where creators mix fragrance into Vaseline before applying to increase the pay-off and durability of the scent.”
